My Name is Doug Payne.
I am a
Yacht Sales and Business Consultant on the Gulf Coast of Texas. My office is located at Flagship Yachts on Clear Lake in Seabrook, Texas about 25 minutes southeast of Houston. Clear Lake connects to Galveston Bay which flows out into the Gulf of Mexico. Here we enjoy some of the finest sailing in the country.
Welcome to my website. If you have found your way here, you must have interest in sailing.
My passion is sailing, and I am very fortunate to be able to work around my passion every day. I spend all day talking to people about sailboats, helping them to find what they are looking for, and allowing them to follow their dreams. The best part is I often get to go sailing! I enjoy the complexity of today’s boats, the electronics, the water and electrical systems, the engines and generators. There is so much to learn, so much to know. I enjoy it all.
I also enjoy sailing my own boat - a boat I spent two years searching for. I probably looked at a hundred boats. I looked at boats in San Diego, Chicago, and as far north as Bayfield, Wisconsin on Lake Superior. I looked at boats in Baltimore, New Orleans, Corpus Christi, Annapolis, and Virginia. It was all in pursuit of the perfect boat, which I found in Port Aransas, Texas. This pursuit helped prepare me to help others to search for their perfect boat.
My job is to listen to what you want to accomplish and understand your needs. I then translate what you want into options to help you realize your sailing dreams. My job is to be there to help you, advise you, be your sounding board, your advisory board, and your friend. WE will get it done together.
I also sell sails and canvas for one of the oldest and largest independent lofts in the U. S. A. You can actually talk to the sail maker who is building your sails. You can get incredible quality with an exact design perfectly fit to every detail of YOUR sailing yacht.
As an added bonus, I have had over 35 years of business experience as a business owner, corporate and investment banker, and financial and operations consultant to entrepreneurial and large private businesses. I still take an occasional consulting engagement to help growing businesses realize their full potential.
I have been boating most of my life. I grew up on Lake Erie in northeastern Ohio. My family had a 33 foot Chris Craft sedan cruiser. What a thrill it was when my dad let me take the wheel.
When my wife, Deedy, and I were first married we were day sailors on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in the summers. We then had a succession of sailboats on lakes in Arizona and Texas. We chartered sailboats in San Diego and Marina Del Ray, California. Catalina Island is one of our favorite sailing spots. We gained a lot of experience on our Freedom 28, a very unique fine yacht.
Last year, we purchased our big Seamaster, a Bob Perry designed 46 foot pilot house sloop. We are in love. Unfortunately, IKE damaged her last fall, but we were able to buy her back and repair her and have added lots of upgrades. She is truly better than before the storm. Talk to me about major refits. I have been there.
Whether it is
selling your boat, purchasing a new or used boat, adding new sails or canvas, or refitting an older or damaged boat, I can help. I look forward to meeting you. Let’s talk sailboats. I am anxious to get started helping you fulfill your dreams. Give me a call anytime.
All the best in sailing and with warmest personal regards,
Doug
